Visit to Bradford: City of Culture

30 October 2025

This year Bradford is ‘the city of culture’. We will take this opportunity to see some of the festival. The visit will begin at the monumental 1904 Baroque Cartwright Gallery. Bradford is hosting this year’s Turner Prize. The choice is contemporary and often controversial. The whole of the gallery will be devoted to this prize. Drink on arrival.

There will then be an optional lunch at Jinnah Restaurant. Choices are on the form below.

This will be followed by a guided tour of the city led by a blue badge guide, including the festival’s Tower of Now by Saad Qureshi. The walk will be about an hour and a quarter in length. We will see some of the city’s grand Victorian heritage.

Bradford has been named UNESCO’s first City of Film, and we will finish at the National Science and Media Museum, newly reopened for the festival.

The cost will be £59 to include the optional lunch and £46 without lunch.

You will be notified whether you have a place by 30th September 2025.

We will leave Handbridge (St Mary’s) at 8.30am, the railway station at 8.35 am and Boughton at 8.40 am.  We will return to Chester at approximately 7.15pm.

The day will be quite long and a little demanding. The price includes coach travel, driver’s tip, donations, refreshments on arrival and a guided tour. The meal option is the main course and a tip.
