Chester’s Riverside Port 1740-1850:  October 13th, 2pm

The Civic Trust has a continuing interest in promoting the maritime history of our city. It’s particularly pleasing when a member can contribute to our knowledge. Tom Welsh was a lecturer in Geography and Earth Sciences at the University of Northampton. He has an ongoing particular interest in interpreting the past through landscape.

By the end of the 1730s trading prospects were looking good for Chester. It had a new port and navigation route to the sea. Tom will be looking at  the constraints and successes experienced by this fledgling port from 1740-1850.

Tom’s research is always meticulous, based on primary evidence. His insights are fresh and original.

Refreshments will be served after the talk. The cost will be £7 per person. You will only be notified if you do not have a place at this event.
