Visit to the CASTLES and COAST of the KINGDOM of NORTHUMBERLAND

In addition to hotel accommodation in the well-reviewed Hogs Head Inn in Alnwick, the price will include travel in an executive coach, 2 lunches and 2 evening meals, admission to Bamburgh Castle and Chesters Roman Fort on Hadrian’s Wall plus gratuities.
ITINERARY
DAY 1 – Lunch at the Sill, the Northumberland National Park Landscape Discovery Centre / visit Chesters, the best preserved Roman Fort overlooking the River Tyne / dinner at the Hotel
DAY 2 – Free morning to explore historic Alnwick – the Norman centre of administration for Northumbria followed by an afternoon visit to Cragside (National Trust). The home of pioneering Victorian engineer and inventor, William Armstrong
DAY 3 – Across the tidal causeway to Lindisfarne (Holy Island) where you can visit the iconic Castle (National Trust), see the ruined Saxon Priory and eat crab sandwiches. Evening meal in a highly-rated pan-Asian restaurant, Leo, in Alnwick
Day 4 – Morning visit to Bamburgh Castle – an unmissable fortress castle. Followed by lunch at Ad Gefrin, a contemporary museum that celebrates the best of Northumberland in Wooler. Ad Gefrin won the Visit Britain Award for New Tourism Business of the Year and was a RIBA Award winner in 2025.
Day 5 – On our return journey to Chester we will visit Seaton Delaval Hall (National Trust), designed by John Vanburgh for the flamboyant Delaval family. Vanburgh grew up in Chester. He also designed Blenheim Palace and Castle Howard as well as writing controversial plays and promoting the rights of women!
