CHESTER CIVIC TRUST DOES A JOLLY : THE MUSIC TRAIN 12th SEPTEMBER 2017
The Mid-Cheshire Line from Chester to Manchester gave us a fine day out to their Mobberley station. Many of our members had not travelled on this scenic line before. It stopped at Mouldsworth, Delamere, Northwich, Knutsford and Plumley before reaching our destination.
We had music, music all the way. The duo, Espionage, played for us throughout both halves of our journey and during our lunch. They must have been exhausted. We had a variety of train related songs, as well as less well known favourites of the band. Some songs were funny: some sad.
The occasion was highly social for the thirty-four members of the club. The band had to contend with a highly voluble audience, as well as the train. We ate at the Railway Inn in Mobberley where we had our own section of the pub. We had ordered our meals in advance, and the service was quick and friendly. The price of the food had been very fair, and members were really impressed with their roast dinners and fish.
We sauntered back to the train after our time at The Railway. Again the train arrived on time and we were able to sit together. The party was particularly jolly on the way back with requests and singing along. Some were even seen to resurrect the hand-jive: we had stopped at a pub.
Throughout the journey we were accompanied by our host, Mike, from the Mid-Cheshire Line volunteers. He master-minded the jaunt and nothing did go awry.
Of course the band and audience had to contend with the noise of the train .This was part of the experience. In the pub the band had to contend with us as well. The whole experience was a fun and social day out for the group.
